Proverbs 2:21-22
For the upright will inhabit the land,

and those of integrity will remain in it;

But the wicked will be cut off from the land,

and the treacherous uprooted from it.

It is difficult to imagine, let alone believe this future scene. Consider what it will be like to have a complete absence of wickedness and treachery. It may seem a lonely pursuit right now, but the path of integrity has great promise.

Many of this world’s inhabitants think the way to success and victory is power and persuasion. By persuasion I mean manipulation, shaming, social pressure, legal pressure, intimidation, and tyranny. The wicked think they have the answers and will force them upon everyone if there isn’t compliance. Can you think of examples – any examples at all – of this practice?

The Desparate Despots Will Disappear

It is the upright and those with integrity who will inherit the land. The desperate despots will disappear. To maintain faithfulness and integrity is to be victorious. It might be a long and hard path, but it’s the one with reward.

The wicked and treacherous have a future, but it’s certainly not the one they envision. If we really think about that, it should elicit compassion along with the profound joy about our future prospects.
